On December 10, 2018 we announced a review of more than 300 claims filed between 2002 and 2017, related to the Kitchener Waterloo area rubber facilities, that had previously not been allowed.
The review was concluded as of October 7, 2019.

What new information was used to review these claims?
Between 2002 and 2017, claims were received from people who worked in the rubber industry in the Kitchener Waterloo area at several companies for a variety of illnesses, including various types of cancer. Any new information that had not previously been submitted, as well as any other relevant information that surfaces, was considered during the review of these claims.
Who reviewed the claims?
Our dedicated review team is made up of occupational disease adjudicators and occupational hygienists, with support from occupational medicine physician experts. We looked at each claim individually to determine if new information would change the original decision.
How do I know if my claim was reviewed?
The WSIB has contacted everyone whose claim was reviewed. If you think your claim should have been included in the review and you haven’t been contacted, please call us at 1-800-387-0750.
Are there any claims that were not reviewed?
The review was focused on claims filed since 2002 that were not previously allowed but had a diagnosis established. Claims where there is not a medical diagnosis were not reviewed. If you have new information related to a claim filed prior to 2002, please call us at 1-800-387-0750 to speak to a WSIB representative.
How will I be notified when a decision on my claim has been completed?
We will call you or your representative to let you know the decision on your claim and follow-up with an explanation in writing.
If my claim is allowed, will I be paid benefits retroactively?

I haven’t filed a claim yet; can I still file a claim?
Yes, if you worked at a rubber plant and think you may have a work-related illness, please call us at 1-800-387-0750 or visit our website to file a new claim. New claims can be filed at any time.
I am the next of kin of a deceased rubber worker, what will happen in their claim? Will I be eligible to claim on behalf of the estate or as a dependant?
