Land acknowledgement

In the spirit of truth and reconciliation, we acknowledge that the land we inhabit today and on which we operate our offices across Ontario are traditional territories of First Nation and Métis Peoples and the residence of many Inuit people. We recognize the history, vibrant spirituality, culture and stewardship of the land of all Indigenous Peoples. We are committed to reconciliation and growing new relationships, partnerships, and understanding to achieve prosperity for all.

Our commitment to Indigenous relations and reconciliation

At the WSIB, we are committed to building respectful and meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities, team members, and businesses. Guided by our core values of accountability, collaboration, empathy, and integrity, we will work towards greater Indigenous inclusion by listening, learning, and taking actional steps. We aim to foster partnerships, support Indigenous-owned and operated businesses, and that our services and workplace are inclusive. This is part of our ongoing journey towards meaningful reconciliation.

Putting our commitment into action

Our goal is to ensure that reconciliation at the WSIB is thoughtful, credible, and guided by Indigenous perspectives, with clear priorities and actions that evolve as our relationships grow. Some of our initiatives include:

Bridges: Indigenous & Allies Network

Bridges is the WSIB’s Indigenous Employee Resource Group (ERG), supporting Indigenous team members and allies across the organization. The ERG creates space for connection, learning, and dialogue, and helps elevate Indigenous perspectives within WSIB. Through awareness-building, cultural learning, and team member engagement, Bridges contributes to a more inclusive workplace and informs the WSIB’s broader approach to Indigenous relations.

Indigenous employer relations strategy

The WSIB is committed to supporting Indigenous-owned and Indigenous-led businesses as part of how we support employers. Our Indigenous employer relations strategy focuses on building respectful partnerships, reducing barriers to participation, and creating opportunities for Indigenous businesses to work with the WSIB. This work supports safer workplaces, economic reconciliation and reflects our commitment to fostering mutually beneficial relationships with Indigenous entrepreneurs and communities.

Nokiiwin partnership

The WSIB has an established, multi-year partnership with Nokiiwin Tribal Council. This partnership reflects a relationship-based approach grounded in respect, trust, and learning. Through collaboration with Nokiiwin, the WSIB continues to strengthen our understanding of Indigenous perspectives through research and engagement and explore opportunities to improve how our services, programs, and workplace practices support Indigenous communities.

Indigenous Works partnership

The WSIB partners with Indigenous Works to support learning opportunities that build cultural competency, knowledge, and engagement across the organization. Through this partnership, team members have access to Indigenous-led learning resources that deepen understanding of Indigenous histories, perspectives, and contemporary realities. This work supports meaningful engagement, strengthens internal capability, and contributes to a more informed and respectful workplace.
