Return to Work and Nurse Consultant Programs Value for Money Audit

Each year, we are required under Workplace Safety and Insurance Act (WSIA) to have an external firm review the cost, efficiency, and effectiveness of one or more WSIB programs through a Value for Money Audit (VFMA). The 2016 VFMA focused on our Return to Work and Nurse Consultant programs.

Findings

The VFMA (PDF) found that the Return to Work and Nurse Consultant programs are delivering value-for-money through the delivery of services to people who were injured or made ill at work. It also made recommendations to further strengthen and improve the programs.

We want to make sure that our programs are effective and that we are providing the best service possible. We agree with the audit recommendations and have already started to implement them. Our upcoming Return-to-Work Strategy addresses several of the recommendations in the report. We appreciate the unique value that nurse consultants bring to our programs and we’ll continue to work with our nurses and other employees to find ways to make sure that the people we serve can benefit from our nurse consultants’ expertise and experience.
