Serious Injury Program Value-for-Money Audit

Each year, we are required under Workplace Safety and Insurance Act (WSIA) to have an external firm review the cost, efficiency, and effectiveness of one or more WSIB programs through a Value-for-Money Audit (VFMA). The latest VFMA focused on our Serious Injury Program (SIP).

Findings

The VFMA (PDF) found that the Serious Injury Program has demonstrated value for money. This means the auditors believe that the employees who run the Serious Injury Program have managed claims in a way that makes sure that people with serious workplace injured receive the benefits and services they need to recover and get back to work where possible.

While the program is delivering value for money, the audit report included recommendations in a number of areas, including the program’s eligibility criteria and use of data. We want to make sure that our programs are effective and that we provide the best service possible. We agree that the recommendations in the audit will improve the performance of the Serious Injury Program. We take the effectiveness of our programs very seriously and we are developing a series of initiatives to address the audit’s recommendations.
