The guidelines below outline how the WSIB uses Twitter to engage with our stakeholders.
What you can expect from our tweets
We use Twitter to share information and interact with our stakeholders. Our activity will vary in terms of frequency and content. We may also tweet or retweet information and/or links that we think may be helpful to you.
The WSIB is committed to ensuring that our information is available in both English and French. We maintain separate Twitter accounts in English (@wsib) and French (@WSIB_FR) and reply to comments in the official language in which they are posted.
Things to keep in mind:
- We monitor our accounts during normal business hours (9 a.m. to 5 p.m. - Monday to Friday, excluding holidays), unless otherwise specified. During this time, we will make our best efforts to respond to your questions when appropriate.
- Please do not tweet information about a specific claim, a confidential matter, or any matter that is too complicated for Twitter. Instead, please contact us via our main phone line at 416-344-1000 or toll free at 1-800-387-0750.
- We ask that your comments be relevant and respectful. We will not respond to tweets that are considered to be offensive, harmful, or otherwise inappropriate.
- Depending on the volume of tweets received, we cannot commit to responding to everyone, but will try our best.
Following and "favouriting"
Our decision to "follow” or "favourite" another social media account does not imply an endorsement of that account, channel, page, or site, and neither does sharing (re-tweeting, reposting, or linking to) content from another user.
Privacy and legal
To protect your own privacy and the privacy of others, we recommend that you do not include personal or business names, phone numbers or email addresses in your tweets.
Our Twitter accounts are publicly accessible and our tweets are visible. Your tweets to our accounts may also be visible, depending on your privacy settings. Your privacy, and the retention of information on Twitter is also governed by the terms and conditions set out in Twitter’s Privacy Policy at http://twitter.com/privacy.
Although we will attempt to help you to the best of our ability, we can’t guarantee – especially in 140 characters – that we will understand your question completely or answer it accurately. By contacting us through Twitter, you acknowledge that any response we provide to you through Twitter:
- is intended to provide helpful information or resources
- is not considered to be definitive advice or a guarantee to solve your issue
WSIB staff using Twitter
Some WSIB employees may tweet in their personal capacity under their own names or pseudonyms. Despite their professional affiliation with the WSIB, the tweets of employees in their personal capacity do not represent the official position of the WSIB. Such tweets should be considered as those of private citizens.
If you have questions about these terms of use, please contact christine_arnott@wsib.on.ca.
