Burial Expenses

Policy

If a worker dies from a work-related injury or disease, the WSIB pays all expenses reasonably connected to burial or cremation, subject to the minimum stipulated in the Act (see 18-01-02, Benefit Dollar Amounts - Accidents from 1998).

The WSIB also pays the actual travel cost when a worker’s body must be transported a considerable distance from the place of death to the worker’s usual place of residence, or to the residence of the worker’s immediate family, for burial or cremation.

Application date

This policy applies to deaths occurring on or after January 1, 2004, for all accidents.
